FitSpirit is pleased to present this team's leader as part of the 2022 edition of the FitSpirit Mother/Daughter Challenge:
Christine Potvin
Vice-President, Client Solutions Center
Determination… the key to success!
As a teenager, Christine had little experience with sports. Unlike her brother, who was always involved in some type of physical activity, Christine simply never felt the need to be active. It might have been for the lack of encouragement but more likely, it was a question of opportunity. Sports were more for boys and physical education classes were nothing but a source of frustration and disappointment.
Then, one year during Sports Day at her school, she discovered running. From that point on, fuelled by determination and desire, she found her favourite sport, developing a deep sense of pride and self-confidence along the way.
Today, as a successful professional and a mother of two grown children, running remains a vital part of Christine’s life, as it has for the past 20 years. Her daily 8 km wellness run not only tones her back muscles—which helps her deal with chronic scoliosis—it also provides much-needed energy for her busy days, and stimulates the production of endorphins that are essential to her mental health.
While she still doesn't consider herself an athlete, Christine is a tireless source of motivation and inspiration for her family, passionately encouraging them to stay active on a regular basis. And one great way to do it is through the FitSpirit Mother/Daughter Challenge, which Christine and her daughter Marichelle, 31, will be taking part in this August.
"I love to run and doing it with my mom is a great way to spend quality, active time together." – Marichelle
As Vice-President of the Client Solutions Centre at Sun Life for the past three years, Christine has dedicated a great part of her career to managing disabilities, so she’s experienced first-hand the physical and psychological benefits of staying active and understands their role in promoting a speedy recovery. For this born leader, the FitSpirit cause is an excellent opportunity to pursue her mission and share her passion for sports, while helping teens reach their full potential.
