Sports, a great way to get together, get away and get better.
For Katherine, sports have always been synonymous with excelling, escaping and having fun with friends and family. And throughout her career, there have been a variety of sporting challenges that have really helped her push herself to the limits. But it’s not all about performance. Katherine also practices yoga, which helps her clear her mind and see life from a new perspective. And she has lots of fond memories where sports have helped her commune with nature. One of the most cherished is the time she took a paddleboard out at dawn at Les Escoumins and spent a rare moment alone with the seals, belugas and other whales.
Aside from being passionate about nature and sports, Katherine believes it’s vital to be a positive role model for her kids, particularly when it comes to staying active and being healthy. So, she never misses an opportunity to go biking, downhill or cross-country skiing, hiking or skating with her daughter, 11; her son, 8, and her two stepsons who are already young adults themselves. It’s no wonder Katherine feels so strongly about sports: her mother and maternal grandmother were both powerful models of determined, dynamic women who cared deeply about the well-being of others. Katherine is determined to live up to the examples they set as she raises her own kids. One great way is by taking part in the FitSpirit Mother/Daughter Challenge with her mother and her daughter. A tri-generational team of active women supported by a tightly knit network of friends, all of whom understand the countless benefits of staying active.
A graduate of McGill University, Katherine is a partner and lawyer at Borden Ladner Gervais, where she has practiced labour law since 2003. She’s also been actively involved in suicide prevention with Suicide-Action Montreal, a commitment for which she won the Claude-Masson Prize, awarded by the National Assembly of Quebec. More recently, Katherine was one of two recipients of the Stronger Together Award, presented to her by the Women in Law Leadership (WILL) organization, for her legal commitment to the Docteur Julien Foundation and her role as a leader in the promotion of women in the legal community. Kudos, Katherine!
